Encounter Enzymes

November 4, 2008 |

Enzymes are normally found in the pancreas, salivary glands and in the mucosa of digestive tract. Autistic children have low levels of enzymes.

How important are enzymes? Enzymes are important because everything that goes on inside our body depends on the action of enzymes. Even vitamins, minerals and hormones cannot do their jobs without enzymes! Enzymes keep our heart beating regularly, our eyesight sharp, our muscles contraction and relaxing.

Without enzymes our food would never get converted into a form our cells could use. The nutrients would never make it from our GI tract into our bloodstream. Our cells would slowly starve to death and would be unable to build and repair itself.

And if we are unable to break down our food into small enough particles, we suffer from inflammation of the organs as well as the joints. Good digestion affects our breathing, elimination, nervous system, blood pressure, insulin/sugar controls, and hormones, among other functions.

Many DAN doctors believe, It is important that an have both:

  • a good diet and
  • an active enzyme therapy

An autistic child can have good digestion and a good diet but when the child start to detoxify without enzymes they will have problems.

Please note: Often there is a period of worsened behavior traits (5-10 days) when enzymes are started due to reduction of exorphins and die off of dysbiotic flora. Many moms find that active charcoal helps. You can find active charcoal at your neighborhood health food store. Active charcoal comes in power form and also tablets. It is black in color but tasteless. Charcoal has been known to help absorb toxins.
