My Personal Dedication to the Children!

In 1969, I began studying “natural health”: nutrition, organic foods, herbal medicine, homeopathy, yoga, detoxification, bodywork, etc. I wanted to find a way to cure autism, and began developing a nutritional program. This evolved into a treatment regime based on behavioral modification techniques, dietary restrictions, nutritional guidance, and saunas for the detoxification of chemical toxins and heavy metals. I researched for two years and then worked with several families for about five years.
At the time, autism was rare and most people had never heard of it. It was erroneously considered an emotional disorder – that is, outside of the ground-breaking research being done simultaneously by Dr. Bernard Rimland.
Dr. Rimland and I met in 1980 on the beach in La Jolla, California. He was watching his son Mark play near the water’s edge. Mark’s body movements caught my eye. After observing him for a minute, I approached Dr. Rimland and asked, “I noticed your boy, is he autistic?” He was naturally surprised, said “yes”, and was curious as to why I would know that. So, I told him of my background and we began what became a series of discussions about autism, our theories of its causes, and the various innovative treatment approaches we felt deserved investigation.
Dr. Rimland invited me to write a paper summarizing my work. The following is an excerpt from the conclusion of that paper: “I think a synergy of biochemical and psychological therapies is a most desirable approach. Personal dietary and nutritional advice should be sought by experts in this area, and the child should be tested for allergies and toxic metals.”
In 1987, I started Heavenly Heat to sell America’s 1st FIR saunas, realizing that they could be of great value as home detoxification systems. When these imported saunas were not well-tolerated by chemically sensitive customers, I decided to create saunas that would provide the ideal detox environment. In 1989 Heavenly Heat’s unique, no-wood glue, no-plywood, all-poplar FIR saunas were introduced. My desire to help autistic children began over 37 years ago and has now come “full circle”. I am grateful to now be able to provide the autism community with the safest and most effective saunas for your children.
