Bring down the Toxic Load
November 3, 2008 |
Surprisingly, our homes are filled with toxins, heavy metals, pesticides, PCP and more. Some of these are easily replaced with a green version, some are best to avoid all together.
The following list is representative of some of the things you can do to bring the toxic load down of your child’s environment. No parent is able to do everything on this list. No parent is able to make a lot of changes overnight. We encourage you to work with your Doctor to see which one of these make the most sense for your child.
1. Remove conventional household cleaners. Seventh Generation products are non-toxic. They might be in your neighborhood Target store.
2. Use fluoride-free toothpaste.
3. Do not cook or heat food in microwave with plastic wrap. Plastic leaches toxins. PLA plastics are safer.
4. Convert your pets flea collar to a non-toxic green version.
5. Consider taking your shoes off before entering your home to prevent bringing in contaminates from the outside.
6. Open your windows to let in fresh air or consider getting a HEPA air filter.
7. Avoid using pesticides.
8. Be aware of your surroundings. Some children react to the glue found in wall-to-wall carpet.
